Obesity on the Kids' Menus at Top Chains
What does it do to a kids 1,200-calorie-a-day diet when lunch weighs in at 1,020?  The Center for Science in the Public Interest released a study that finds 93 percent of the top chains' kid's meals are over 430 calories, the recommended 1/3 of daily caloric intake for kids aged four through eight.

On the road for a conference, which means I'm not in the kitchen.  Road food so far has included ciabatta bread and brie from Shaw's grocery, sushi to go, Au Bon Pan's multigrain bagel, hummus and pita, and a metric ass-load of coffee.

I've finally jumped on the Gordon Ramsay bandwagon.  I'd heard about Hell's Kitchen, but hadn't dared let myself get sucked in.  Until this season.  Yes, the show is horrible. I'm not talking about the Boboli pizza disc or some other par-baked monstrosity.  I'm talking about real dough with flour and yeast that you can take home and knead yourself.  Last weekend, that's exactly what I did, and I came away with a fantastic sausage pizza done to absolute perfection.

A slaughterhouse that has been accused of mistreating cows agreed Sunday to recall 143 million pounds of beef in what federal officials called the largest beef recall in U.S. history.

Keith Williams, a U.S. Department of Agriculture spokesman, said investigators have found no cases of illness related to the recalled meat.

Among them:


9. Eat food from animals that eat grass.
10. Cook, and if you can, grow some of your own food.
11. Eat meals and eat them only at tables.


Interesting to note that Lifehacker's Kevin Purdy bemoans (however briefly) the time it takes to cook.  This is nonsense.
